simple woman's daybook

FOR TODAY February 5, 2013

Outside my window...
Skies are dark and overcast and it is gently snowing.

I am thinking... I'd like to be anonymous sometimes.

I am thankful... for warm shelter during these cold winter months.

In the kitchen... we will be having grilled pork chops, potatoes and squash for dinner tonight.  Wait, I take that back, it's pizza Tuesday.

I am wearing... black fleece pants, gray t-shirt and an orange fleece coat.  Not exactly the front page of a fashion magazine this morning but it's warm.

I am creating... craft projects for the young kids in co-op to put together on Friday.

I am going... to enjoy getting away for a women's retreat in a few weekends.

I am wondering... if parenting ever gets easy?  Should this be put in the dream category or the long term goal category??

I am reading... An Honest Look at a Mysterious Journey by John & Joanna Stumbo.  One of the best books I've read in a long time.

I am hoping... to have a few new bird houses put out in the next few weeks.  I'm looking to attract a robin to hopefully scare away the sparrows that are much too aggressive.

I am looking forward to... dare I say Spring?  With the weather today, it seems that spring is a long, long way off.

I am learning... how to crochet by reading about it in a book.  Not sure this is the best way, but it's a start.

Around the house... properly folded clean laundry.  Some still on the back of the couch waiting to be put away and some already neatly tucked in drawers.

I am pondering... parenthood.  I'm stuck in a rut and need to energize the way I do things.  I need some new methods of discipline and reward especially for my two year old.

A favorite quote for today... “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...” ~ Dr. Seuss

One of my favorite things... M&M'S® Dark Chocolate!

A few plans for the rest of the week: swimming lessons, Awana, Co-op and library.  Nice and low-key just the way I like it.

A peek into my day...

  1. You sound content....I suppose I could tell you that when the children have left the nest and have their own lives, parenting does get easier...but it is also a little complicated because you have to keep your advice to yourself unless you're asked for it and you can't fix hurts with a hug and a cookie like you once could....
    Spring is coming, I promise.

  2. Take it from me, Kim...parenting NEVER gets easy. Hubby and I have a 30 yr-old, 26 yr-old, 14 yr-old, 12 yr-old, 10 yr-old, 9 yr-old, and a 5 yr-old We also have a baby in heaven. And we have 4 grandchildren. It never gets any easier. In fact, I now realize that it's much easier parenting little ones than older ones. The issues that come up with the youngers pale in comparison to what the olders face.
I'm stopping by from the SWD and I'm your newest follower. :)
    Many blessings!
