happy valentine's day!

Image
We celebrated Valentine's day with homemade cards, candy and heart shaped money as might be expected. Patrick and I set all the cards and candy on the kitchen table at each childs place so the kids would be surprised when they came down for breakfast. Before I go on, I must tell you that Mason loves candy!  This isn't just a two year old love of all things sweet.  This is a pure infatuation with anything that could remotely be labeled candy or 'cahny' as Mason would say.  If there is candy in the house that he knows about, even if it's tucked away in a cupboard, he will relentlessly ask and ask for candy day after day, several times a day until it's gone.  The kid is the epitome of a broken record.  When the relentless asking does not yield his desired result, he will even go so far as to wait until the household is out of the kitchen and bring a chair to the counter in an attempt to acquire some candy for himself.  The boy does not lack pers...

FOR TODAY February 5, 2013 Outside my window... Skies are dark and overcast and it is gently snowing. I am thinking... I'd like to be anonymous sometimes. I am thankful... for warm shelter during these cold winter months. In the kitchen... we will be having grilled pork chops, potatoes and squash for dinner tonight.  Wait, I take that back, it's pizza Tuesday. I am wearing... black fleece pants, gray t-shirt and an orange fleece coat.  Not exactly the front page of a fashion magazine this morning but it's warm. I am creating... craft projects for the young kids in co-op to put together on Friday. I am going... to enjoy getting away for a women's retreat in a few weekends. I am wondering... if parenting ever gets easy?  Should this be put in the dream category or the long term goal category?? I am reading... An Honest Look at a Mysterious Journey by John & Joanna Stumbo.  One of the best books I've read in a long time. I am hoping......

FOR TODAY January 9, 2013 Outside my window... beautiful blue sky and bright sunshine. I am thinking... it feels good to be recording my thoughts today. I am thankful... for the internet and podcasts.  Just listened to an inspiring message. In the kitchen... an oven begging to be cleaned and a refrigerator with empty shelves. I am wearing... striped pajama pants and a long-sleeved gray t-shirt. I am creating... a little gift for a baby girl who has not yet arrived into this world. I am going... to get over this cold someday! I am wondering... if I can keep Mason out of trouble today.  He is a mischievous little one. I am reading... all the notecards I made last year.  Starting a new batch for the new year. I am hoping... my money tree will produce this year.  That little plant just doesn't seem to be growing.  I am looking forward to... new challenges, new thoughts and ideas, new projects and new energy in the new year. I am learnin...

FOR TODAY December 10, 2012 Outside my window... the sun is shining and making the fresh snow glisten with diamonds.  Beautiful! I am thinking... of Robert Frost's poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening. I am thankful... for healthy children. In the kitchen... There are a few dirty dishes that sit waiting for me and box cereal waiting for the children's breakfast. I am wearing... my shortcomings on my sleeve. I am creating... lesson plans for the kids schooling this week. I am going... to cross off a task on my 'to do' list today; wrap Christmas presents.  I am wondering... if there is an online resource that reviews educational apps? I am reading... An Honest Look at a Mysterious Journey by John Stumbo I am hoping... Mason will start feeling better.  He has some sort of intestinal yuck that isn't doing his sensitive bum any favors.  :( I am looking forward to...  getting together with my girlfriends. I am learning... the f...

The first nine weeks of school have come and gone and we are now in our 14th week!  Life is cruising by like a reed boat on the Nile.  I wanted to give you a peek at some of our projects from the first nine weeks studying The Books of Moses .   Ancient Egypt and the Egyptians way of life.   Ancient Egyptian reed boat diorama. Under the cover of semi-darkness I harvested the grass from the weed grasses that grow tall along the roadside near our home.  Our school principal was driving the getaway vehicle!  :)     On to Ancient Egypt: Pharaohs and Pryramids   A sweet Egyptian pyramid! Some sugar cubes were eaten during the making of this project!   The Egyptian double crown. The Egyptian double crown .  Symbolized the joining of Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt.     Sarcophagus, complete with wrapped mummy.  A folded paper sarcophagus was cut out and colored by ea...
