A Modern Day Parable

I don't just want to study and talk about the bible.  I want to live what it says.

For Today May 25, 2016 Looking out my window... I see green grass, a hazy blue sky, pink petals on the ground and summer flowers in terra cotta pots.  The leaves on the trees are shimmering in a light breeze. I am thinking... Hi, my name is Kim and it's been 22 days since my last blog post. I am thankful... for spontaneous trips to the candy store. One of my favorite things... the gurgle and splash of a water fountain. I am wearing... black shorts, a gray t-shirt and my hair is pulled back in a tiny pony tail. I am creating... a budget, slowly and surely.  Yay! I am listening... to the kids talk about their summer vacation while watching a recording of Mythbusters. I am hoping... to finish all my errands today. I am reading... Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. I am learning...  to wake up, put on my armor, pray and repeat.  A little something I copied from Christine Caine In my kitchen... the remnants of lunch.  A pan on the stove

A Birthday Celebration

A few weeks ago I asked my (then) eight year old daughter what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday.  Her response, "A dirt cake with worms." That is not at all what I expected (or wanted) to hear.  But, a mom must honor the birthday wishes of her only daughter.  With a twist. I didn't want to make a simple dirt cake with worms so I went on the World Wide Web and Pinterest and searched for dirt cake ideas.  What came up in the search was a delightful mix of many different ways to serve dirt cake.  One of which was in a flower pot with a fake flower in the middle.  I loved the flower pot idea, but wanted the flowers to be mostly edible.  Then I came across this idea .  It was a great way to get everyone involved in the making of the cake.  Sadly, I forgot to take photos of the young bakers at work, but we had a good time making flowers and crushing Oreo cookies. Here is the result. One website mentioned serving with a trowel.  How could I resist? Marshma

For Today... May 2, 2016 Looking out my window...  a beautiful day filled with sunshine, birds and new leaves.  It's a weed pulling, gardening kind of day. I am thinking... of Christopher Yuan and his family. I am thankful... for days when my heart is heavy.  It allows me to slow down and ponder all the blessings in my life. I am wearing... blue jeans and a black sweatshirt and flip flops.  The flip flops are so I can kick them off at any time today and feel the green grass between my toes.
