FOR TODAY December 10, 2012
Outside my window... the sun is shining and making the fresh snow glisten with diamonds.  Beautiful!

I am thinking... of Robert Frost's poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening.

I am thankful... for healthy children.

In the kitchen... There are a few dirty dishes that sit waiting for me and box cereal waiting for the children's breakfast.

I am wearing... my shortcomings on my sleeve.

I am creating... lesson plans for the kids schooling this week.

I am going... to cross off a task on my 'to do' list today; wrap Christmas presents.

I am wondering... if there is an online resource that reviews educational apps?

I am reading... An Honest Look at a Mysterious Journey by John Stumbo

I am hoping... Mason will start feeling better.  He has some sort of intestinal yuck that isn't doing his sensitive bum any favors.  :(

I am looking forward to... getting together with my girlfriends.

I am learning... the fine art of knowing when to be silent and when t…

peek into our classroom

The first nine weeks of school have come and gone and we are now in our 14th week!  Life is cruising by like a reed boat on the Nile.  I wanted to give you a peek at some of our projects from the first nine weeks studying The Books of Moses.Ancient Egypt and the Egyptians way of life. Under the cover of semi-darkness I harvested the grass from the weed grasses that grow tall along the roadside near our home.  Our school principal was driving the getaway vehicle!  :)On to Ancient Egypt: Pharaohs and Pryramids Some sugar cubes were eaten during the making of this project!
The Egyptian double crown.  Symbolized the joining of Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt.  A folded paper sarcophagus was cut out and colored by each student in Megan's co-op class.  A cardboard pharoah was then wrapped in linen and placed inside the sarcophagus.  Fun and easy!  An interesting study of Ancient Egypt Polytheism To make the sistrums the kids and I used some balsam wood that we briefly soaked in hot water …

unexpected joy

It's a gray day.  I woke up to rain on the windows and the cold wind buffeting the house.  The first day of winter is almost here and even amid all the Christmas cheer, a gray day can dampen my spirits. I've been looking through our pictures from this past year and came across this cheerful reminder of warm and sunny days.  As I remembered our garden filled with flowers a few months ago, a wistful sigh escaped when I gazed upon the brown and barren ground that fills that space right now.  I was reminded of this verse. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.~ Isaiah 40:8 This verse prompted me to open my bible and search for verses containing the word joy and I came across this one,The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. ~Psalm 65:8 Even though the landscape outside may not be overflowing with color right now, I realized there is still beauty and joy. …

For Today December 4, 2012
Outside my window... it's dark outside, no moon but lots of twinkling christmas lights.

I am thinking... what a difference a day makes.  Yesterday I had no energy and today I've been buzzing around the house like a busy bee.

I am thankful... for glass windows!  I've just finished reading a few books that talked about animal skin as window coverings.  How dark every shelter must have been!

In the kitchen... green acorn squash, butternut squash, yellow bananas and browned banana bread.

I am wearing... red Coca Cola t-shirt over a long sleeve white crewneck, black athletic pants and pink balega socks.

I am creating... red, orange, brown and cream felted wool acorns.

I am going... to look for a snowman cookie jar to add some whimsy in the kitchen this winter.

I am wondering... what little delight I can give as gifts this year?

I am reading... blogs.  Catching up on some of my favorites that I've been neglecting the past few weeks.

I am hoping... to find…
