Aloha Friday

Image
My husband and I watched the movie "The Bucket List" starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson, in which two terminally ill men who meet in a cancer ward, go off on a road trip together with a wish list of to-dos before they die. For Aloha Friday , I thought an appropriate question would be, What is one thing on your Bucket List? To read other questions or to participate in Aloha Friday go to An Island Life and ask your question. Aloha!

Goodbye Spring and Spring Reading Thing

Image
We have welcomed summer with a bang. Temperatures are way above normal, in the high 80’s to low 90’s Fahrenheit. With summer in full swing, we say goodbye to spring and the Spring Reading Thing. Now it’s time to see how I did. On my original list were: · Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge · The Joyful Homeschooler by Mary Hood · The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg · Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood by Jim Fay & Charles Fay · The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald · Twelve extraordinary women : how God shaped women of the Bible and what He wants to do with you by John MacArthur · Everybody's normal till you get to know them by John Ortberg · Looking for God by Nancy Ortberg Those that are bold are the books that I read. I borrowed Love and Logic Magic from the library and didn’t get a chance to read it before it was due back. I’m afraid that The Great Gatsby fell victim to reading James and the Giant Peach with my children. John Ortberg is one of m

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that today I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. Who do you most admire? Why? To participate go to An Island Life and ask your question. Aloha!

I Want To Amaze Him

I was reading a blog entry from Garden Glimpses today. She was commenting on those inevitable startles that come along our garden path. I have come across many of those startles lately. I have recently had unusual blood test results that are leading to more tests. And last Thursday my husband came home toting all the contents from his desk. He was laid off. Talk about being startled. I just about screamed from the sheer enormity of these 2 instances that came one on top of the other. Then, at church on Sunday, the question was asked, "Do we have a faith that Jesus would be amazed with?" I began to question how I was reacting to my top 2 startles of the week. I was praying, asking for healing, strength and courage. But how was my faith in God's promises? I have to admit that I was fearful and anxious when not in prayer. I was not taking comfort in God's word. I was reading Isaiah 43:2 "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass throug

The 5 Hour Dinner, or So I Thought

I am not a good cook. More to the point, I am not a patient cook. I do not like recipes that have a lot of steps and a lot of ingredients (there is always that one ingredient that I do not have in the cupboard). I also have little to no practice cooking large amounts of food. Today I embarked on a cooking adventure which was only supposed to take a few hours. Instead it turned into an all day experience. I made lasagna. Lasagna you say, taking all day?? Yep. That's because I was making it. I was making a double recipe so that I could have two. One for us and one for my in-laws. Step one, brown the meat. Ah yes. I was doomed from the beginning you see. I have only one 2 QT. skillet and I needed to brown four pounds of hamburger. No problem, I'll just do two batches. Then I forgot to brown the onions with the meat. Hmmm. Ok, no problem, I'll just brown the onions separately. Oh, but first I needed to wash the skillet. Not to bore you with all the minute

Blogger's Block

I'm going through a blogging block. I can't seem to think of anything to blog about. I was trying to come up with a reason why and then the lightbulb went on. I shut down. The year 2009 has not been a particularly good year for me. My husband lost his job in January. He is employed again, but the company he is employed with is horrible. He has no phone, is not able to email any personal emails and he was taken into the office behind closed doors yesterday and reprimanded for talking to his co-worker over his lunch break! (seriously!) Then, my father suffered a massive heart attack in February which left his heart weak and left my father without any energy. It is difficult to see him only able to participate in half the activities that used to fill his time before the attack. My mom broke her arm. My sister broke her leg. My brother was laid off. And now, my blood test results have come back abnormal and I'm unsure what is going to happen with that. When bad things happen t

For Today Monday June 1, 2009 Outside my window... It's 60 degrees Farenhuit with a few clouds and a breeze that will hopefully blow the clouds away. I am thinking... of the busy weekend that just passed. From the learning rooms... I'm reading Pocketful of Pinecones in preparation for next year. I am thankful for... my wonderful husband and three darling children. From the kitchen... dishwasher is emptied and counters are clean. Spaghetti for dinner. I am wearing... Clarke college sweatshirt with my pajama pants that are turquoise and green stripes. It's quite the fashion statement. I am reading... my bible. I am hoping... that everything I do today and this week will glorify the Lord. I am praying... for friends who decided to leave our small group for a time because of a hectic schedule. Around the house... all is quiet as the children are still sleeping and husband is off to work. One of my favorite things... fruit parfaits! A few plans for the rest of the week... doct
